Useful Windows 8 Tricks and Tips
1.God Mode :
Windows 8 and 8.1 have an enormous number of settings and configurations strewn throughout the operating system, making it awkward to remember where they all are. They can be organised into one handy folder, which has been dubbed by internet users as ‘God Mode’. This folder the God Mode contains all the settings of your Windows 8 and 8.1 computer.
To create that handy folder first create a new folder on the desktop and rename it as given below (see that there are no spaces):
That’s all after renaming the folder, the Folder icon changes to God mode icon. Open it and you’ll find all the setting related to your Windows 8.

2.Go Straight To Desktop :
When you start your PC you will encounter Start-up screen which you may not always find good. To skip that and go directly to desktop you need to change the settings. To change the settings First place your mouse on empty space of your taskbar and right click, you find properties click that a pop-up window will appear with tabs. Along the tabs, Select the Navigation tab and under the Start screen sub-heading there is a check box saying ‘When I sign in or close all applications on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start’. Check this and now whenever you sign in, you will be taken directly to the desktop, bypassing the Metro UI completely.
3.File History Backup :
The File History is useful tool which automatically backs up your desktop, libraries, Internet Explorer Favourites, contacts and SkyDrive. If any of these files happen to get damaged, lost or deleted, the File History means that you can restore the information from a previous version. However, despite being incredibly useful, the feature is actually disabled by default. The good news is that it is very easy to turn back on. To enable File History, use a Start search or type ‘Win +W’ and type in File History. Tap on the result, and then simply turn it on (or obviously turn it off if you don’t want it). But it’s best kept on.
4.Groups :
The tiles of Apps or widgets which you find on the start screen can be resized and grouped for our convenience. To resize a tile just right click on it and choose the size from bottom tab. To group the apps and widgets press Ctrl + – button or with the help of mouse scroll down the wheel so that the start screen gets minimized. Now right click on the group and you find “name group” option just click on it and name your group.
5.Refresh PC :
The best way to clean your PC without risk of losing your Files, music or videos in one easy process i.e., by refreshing your PC. Windows 8 provides you with the unique option of refreshing your PC without losing any of your files, documents, music or videos. In previous iterations of Windows the only way to refresh your PC was to completely reinstall the operating system; now, with Windows 8, you can simply ‘refresh’ your PC. If you find that your PC is running slower than usual, or isn’t running particularly well, the best option for you is to refresh it. This means that your files and personalisation settings will not be adjusted, but your PC settings will be reverted back to their defaults. As well as this, apps from the Windows Store will remain the same, but software that you have installed from discs or websites will be removed. In addition, a list of apps that have been removed will be saved to your computers desktop.
This is by far the most efficient manner in which to clean your PC without the risk of losing your precious files and documents.
To refresh your PC press “Win + C” a right sidebar appears choose “setting” from it then a right pop up appears choose ‘Change PC setting’ then a new window appears there go to “General” in general when you scroll down you find “Refresh your pc without affecting your files” then choose that option and follow the instructions to refresh your PC.
